House of Wine began, as many good ideas do, with a conversation over a glass of wine.
Founded by Michael Hoult and Stephen Gilroy, House of Wine brings together decades of experience across wine retail, hospitality and wholesale.
Michael grew up in his family business, Hoult’s Wines, before spending time running bars in Leeds. He later joined a national wholesaler, where he built a strong reputation working with restaurants and on-trade customers across the North.
Stephen’s background is firmly rooted in hospitality. He has run restaurants across Manchester and Yorkshire, worked for an independent wine wholesaler, and also spent time at the same national wholesaler, where the two first worked together.
House of Wine was set up to offer a more considered approach to wine supply — one built around well-chosen wines, practical support and long-term relationships with customers.
Our focus is on helping on-trade venues build wine lists that reflect current drinking trends, work with food, and are supported by clear training and ongoing advice.
